What is the Academy Kids program? The Academy Kids Preparatory program is an exclusive, professional, multi-discipline performing arts training program for students age 10-17. Academy Kids and their families understand the value of arts education and the many benefits of training in multiple arts disciplines. Students in this program strive for excellence in acting, dance and voice. They understand the importance of being a “triple threat” as many of them aspire to pursue a career in the performing arts. The program is a complete arts experience that will not only provide professional instruction and guidance as students explore the multi-faceted world of performing arts, but it will provide each student with a wide array of valuable life skills such as discipline, self-confidence, teamwork, communication, organization, public speaking, and problem solving. Who can be an Academy Kid? Students in this program must be extremely focused, responsible, committed to excellence and have strong performance skills. All students must have taken Fundamentals of Acting (or be willing to take it in addition to their required classes) to be considered. When are the auditions? Auditions are held twice a year (May and July). Students will be asked to:
How much time is involved? Students selected to participate in The Academy Kids program will be placed in classes based on a variety of factors including age, maturity, focus, ability, previous training, and prior performance experience. If a student is a returning Academy Kid, TMCA staff will also consider previous classroom performance, attitude, focus and preparedness. The Master Class Academy strongly encourages academic excellence; therefore we do not expect unreasonable time commitments from the students. Each student will be required to take one 2 hour acting class, 1-3 hours of dance and a ½ hour private voice lesson each week for 10 months (August-May). *Please note: Mandatory rehearsals for the spring Academy Kid musical will involve 3-4 days per week for approx. 1 month. Students are excused from regular classes during the month of rehearsals.
